Our Signature Product
Kopi Luwak
The most expensive coffee in the world
The Asian palm civet (also known as the luwak in Indonesia), is found in Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. The "world's most expensive coffee" is made from coffee beans that are partially digested and then pooped out by the civet, a catlike creature which has a long tail like a monkey, face markings like a raccoon, and stripes or spots on its body. A cup of kopi luwak, as it’s known, can sell for as much as $80 in the United States.
The growth in the kopi luwak industry has encouraged local people to protect civets for their valuable dung. Their digestive enzymes change the structure of proteins in the coffee beans, which removes some of the acidity to make a smoother cup of coffee.
Other Southeast Asian coffees available upon request.
Transport of Your Coffee
To ensure there is no moisture buildup while the beans are in transit over the ocean, which could cause the delicate flavors to fall apart, create strange defect flavors, and/or microbes, The Coffee Exotic Company uses special bags to transport the beans, sealed in such a way that the micro-climate inside is maintained for months at a time. This reduces the risk of insect and microbial growth compared to burlap bags.
